Lippies for Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted by ilovelippy on October 6, 2011

October doesn’t just mean it’s time to change your lip palette for fall (although that is a part of it). It’s national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, bringing awareness to a disease that affects 1 in 8 women in the United States, or 12 percent of women, and was diagnosed in over 200,000 women last year. The question then is, why wouldn’t you show your support? I have a simple solution for all of you lippy lovers. During the month of October, instead of purchasing any old lip product, look for ones offered by a variety of brands that support breast cancer awareness and research in some ways. Here are a few to get you started.

During the month of October, Shiseido will donate $5 to CEW Cancer and Careers for every unit of their Shimmering Rouge in Iron Maiden purchase. This is a great color that imparts a subtle shimmer to lips, without drying them out.

Bobbi Brown (a favorite cosmetics company) has created a pink ribbon lip set, which includes their pink lip color and Bellini High Shimmer lip gloss. With each purchase, $10 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I love the creaminess of Bobbi Brown’s lip products.

Clinique, on the other hand, is working to educate its customers about the risks of breast cancer. With every purchase of any product during October, Clinique is offering a free pink ribbon pin plus an information card with key breast-health tips. These days, I can’t live without my Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Woppin’ Watermelon. It leaves my lips with a natural, very subtle pretty pink hue.

Lastly, a fun, fav lip balm I own and love is helping the cause. Evolution of Smooth (EOS) will donate 5 percent of all U.S. sales of their Smooth Sphere Lip Balm to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Think pink and go for their new Strawberry Sorbet scent.

What are you waiting for? Go help women in need!

Kisses and thoughts to those who have been affecting by this disease,

Chocolate Lip Balm? Mmmm…

Posted by ilovelippy on September 14, 2011

I really love food, and I REALLY love dessert. Fortunately for me, recent studies show that chocolate eaten in moderation (I prefer the dark kind), can benefit the heart, help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol and sharpen your memory. So really, what’s not to love?

If you’re trying to cut back on your sugar consumption, but can’t fully resist, now you can get your two favorite loves — candy and lippy — into one fantastic product sans calories. Hershey’s  has some fun and yummy products that will really have you licking your lips.

Instead of unwrapping a REESE’S Cup, snap open a REESE’S cup shaped lip gloss. Peanut butter goes better with chocolate than jelly, and better on the lips than in the stomach.

If you’re like me and not a huge peanut butter fan, go straight for the chocolate with HERSHEY’s Lip Balm that actually will soften lips with its conditioning oils, while leaving your pucker smelling great.

Just remember, these products are not to be consumed and can not be served with coffee and at your dinner party.

Lippy Highlight: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sugar Passion

Posted by ilovelippy on September 9, 2011

It’s no secret one of my favorite lippies on the market today is Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, with it’s smooth-feel application, incredibly moisturizing ingredients, sun protectant and glossy color. Just in time for one of fall’s big colors for lips — bold red — Fresh presents us with their newest addition to the Sugar Lip Treatment family: passion.

The great thing about this product is it’s all you need: leave your lip balm at home, this product conditions just as well, or better, than your trusty balm; and the color it leaves on lips can replace your gloss or even lipstick. Just remember the more you apply, the bolder and darker the color gets.

So lippy lovers, will you be trying Fresh’s newest sugar lip treatment?

Fall 2011 Lip Color Trends

Posted by ilovelippy on September 8, 2011

As the first week of September soon comes to a close, we’re quickly on our way to cooler temperatures, which means fall is right around the corner. Not knocking down our door just yet, but is pretty close. On the bright side, the beauty of the changing leaves (think burnt orange and red) can be reflected in our lip palettes. Here’s another fun surprise: you don’t really need to open your wallet and start from scratch to be on-trend for the season. Yay for not needing to spend more money!

Here’s a look at what your should be wearing on your lips this fall, as seen on the fall runways of some top designers

Alice + Olivia painted the lips of models a bright, bold red. This look is great for pairing with darker colors of fall fashion, like navy, to really make lips pop. For a good fall look, go for a matte lipstick like NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Mascate (bold red).

Bottega Veneta went the nude route by pairing with a heavy lined eye and colorful fashions like burnt orange. To get the nude lip without looking sickly, try a lipstick with some shine or shimmer, like Korres Mango Butter Lipstick in Nude 33. It’s conditioning ingredients and glossy finish will make lips look healthy — not starved for moisture or color.

Carolina Herrera took the pink lip of summer and transformed it into fall with one simple thing: matte. Take your bright pink lipstick from spring/summer, blot and you’re ready to go. Try Illamasqua Lipstick in Corrupt (matte hot pink) to get this look with one easy swipe.

Gucci played it safe for fall by going with a commonly seen lip palette during this season: dark, deep reddish/brown. As your tan fades, this can be a tough color to pull off, so it may be best left for those with some color to their skin tone (us translucent ladies may want to pass). To get this look, try Stila Long Wear Lip Color in Phenomenal (reddish brown). It’s pencil-like applicator will help you easily hit the outline of your lips.

Jill Stuart played up the color for fall: tangerine. Don’t be scared, surprisingly this is a color many of us can pull off. It goes great with a peachy cheek, just don’t overdose with and orange top. I recommend a gloss or sheer lippy for this color, since it’s already very bold. Once you’ve become a tangerine veteran, you can move onto the lipstick phase. Check out Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in tangerine, which has an added extra of being ever so slightly scented with vanilla.

Are you falling for fall’s colors yet?

Lip Plumpers That Work

Posted by ilovelippy on August 25, 2011

Let’s get real: big lips are enviable. Some of the most beautiful leading ladies have them: Angelina, Scarlett, Jessica (Alba, specifically), Eva Mendes and Lippy Lauren. Okay, well, at least I’m a leading lady in my husband’s eyes. Before you get collagen lip injections, which have the potential to distort lips if not done right, try one of the hundreds of lip plumpers available. Almost every cosmetics company is making them, but here are some top picks.

City Lips lip plumper is the real deal. It works by stimulating your own natural collagen production to enhance lips. Its technology include Hyaluronic Acid, which moisturizes and supports maintenance of collagen, Oligopeptides, which stimulate the production of collagen and elastin (keeps our skin from sagging) and Celadrin which stimulates cellular renewal. Immediately after applying the Sin City color, my girlfriend and I noticed my top lip looked fuller, and I could feel it working.

Fusion Beauty LipFusion uses another technology to dehydrate the collagen molecule into tiny pieces, so they can penetrate your lips. Because of the dehydration, the lips swell as they rehydrate with your body’s natural water (the human body is 61.8 percent water by weight). LipFusion leaves out potentially harmful ingredients such as cinnamon and caffeine, so it won’t irritate lips.

MaxoLip contains moisturizing ingredients such as Jojoba Oil and vitamin E, as well as the lip plumping agents seen in City Lips, including Oligopeptide, Hyaluronic Filling Spheres and Benzyl Nicotinate, which claims to create more of that red, rosy area due to the dilation of blood vessels. MaxoLip isn’t available in a choice of colors like the other two, but the tingly sensation you feel really is a sign of lips looking fuller.

Some claim that the more you apply, the more permanent your lip fullness will be. I’m not sure if that’s true (haven’t seen it yet), but for the immediate future, I highly recommend at least one lip plumper in your makeup bag.

Temporary Lippy Tattoos

Posted by ilovelippy on August 17, 2011

Tired of the same old lip colors: red, pink, beige, berry, coral and so on. Want to really make a statement with your kisser? The company Violent Lips is encouraging people to embrace your inner Lady Gaga and try a temporary lip tattoo, or two.

Tattoo designs range from animals like tiger, cheetah, zebra, leopard, giraffe and snake to funky designs like polka (dot), rainbow, denim, fishnet, rose, glitterati, American flag and words like pout, feisty and single. Designs are available in pinks, reds, purples and more, depending on which pattern you choose.

Application is similar to temporary skin tattoos, only you need to cut out the lip shapes to match your own lips. With Halloween nearly 2 months away, this could make for a fun addition to your costume.

Would you try a temporary lip tattoo?

Lippy Technology

Posted by ilovelippy on August 14, 2011

We’ve come a long way in the world of lippy technology from when Ancient Mesopotamian women used to crush semi precious jewels to decorate their lips, and lipstick in 16th century England was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants. Whether it’s the packaging or the product itself, modern lippy is constantly evolving, all to make our lips and our life a little happier. Here are my innovative lippy picks:

Artistry Light Up Lip Gloss not only imparts a pretty sheer shine to lips, but it comes with a built-in mirror and applicator that actually lights up for stress-free, perfect-in-the-dark application. The wand itself contains LED lights so you never need to worry about whether you missed your lips or not — particularly a concern for those with thin lips.

Lip Savvy lip gloss, launching this summer, not only has fun packaging — from animal print to floral — but contains serious technology to improve the condition of your lips and reverse the hands of time. First, this product plumps, hydrates lips and targets wrinkles with Hyaluronic Filling spheres. Anti-aging ingredients include the Complete Free Radical Protection Technology, which works by protecting cells from free radicals. When it comes to lip appearance, Lip Savvy leaves lips with a rich, sparkly color in one of 22 shades.
