Easy Winter Weather Lip Care

Posted by ilovelippy on February 10, 2014

Hi lippy lovers! Miss me? After a long hiatus to take care of my new daughter, I am back with the latest and greatest lippy tips and advice.

Here in the northeast, I’ve been dealing with a polar vortex, snowstorms every three days, and terrible heating that has wreaked havoc on my lips. Harsh winter weather should never prevent your lips from continuing to look their glossy, pink, healthy best. All you need are a few extra products and a couple more minutes to keep your lips looking fresh and kissable. Follow my simple winter lippy routine and kiss flaky chapped lips farewell for good.

Step 1: Moisturize From Within

Yes, lip care is certainly about the conditioning products you put on your lips. But just like your skin, your lips need to be hydrated from the inside out. Drink plenty of water (8 cups a day) with a combination of fruits and veggies with a high concentration of H2O, such as grapefruit, pineapple, blueberries, carrots, celery and zucchini.

Step 2: Exfoliate and Buff

You may use an exfoliating wash on your body in the shower, so why not do the same for your lips? A lip exfoliant is a great way to condition your pucker while removing dead skin and flakes. Sugar Lip Polish by Fresh takes seconds to apply by massaging with the tip of your finger, and contains conditioning ingredients such as shea butter and jojoba oils that leaves lips feeling soft.

Step 3: Your Perfect Lip Balm

Now that you have a fresh base to work with, it’s time to really moisturize. Since winter weather means harsh winds, a mix of cold air and indoor heat, and sun reflecting off the snow, your lip care needs to work triple duty. Aquaphor Lip Repair with SPF 30 seems to start healing lips on impact and continues to heal with ingredients like Vitamin E and Chamomile. You’ll be left with a subtle shine that looks glossy, not balmy. Plus, Aquaphor products are great for even the most sensitive skin (hint: my daughter’s pediatrician recommends only their products for sensitive baby skin).

Step 4: Beautify

Now, the really fun part. Winter lips tend to look dry and pasty, so you’ll want to put a little color back onto your pout. Too much though, and the cracks may start to show (even despite your strict lip regimen!) If you’re not Taylor Swift or Christina Aguilera, a fresh rose-colored moisturizing gloss will do the trick. L’Oreal Colour Riche Gloss in Rich Pink will nourish lips with its Omega-3 and Vitamin E ingredients while providing lips with a soft tint to hide any signs of winter distress.
